David + Suli - Sunrise Surprise Proposal at Griffith Observatory - Los Angeles California by Ulices Del Toro

It was truly an amazing experience being able to photograph David + Suli’s surprise sunrise proposal at the beautiful Griffith Observatory overlooking Los Angeles.

Thanks to the help of his sister Becky, and several of his friends, David was able to construct the ultimate plan from all the way across the country in Florida, for the perfect dream proposal. This past Christmas, David surprised his girlfriend with a vacation to Southern California! She had no idea what else was being planned besides what is already a trip to remember.

When I talked to David, he told me his initial plan to surprise his girlfriend and it was perfect. We went over some logistics, and being from California, I gave him a couple of ideas to look into. With his friends, he came up with the best plan, to propose to his girlfriend at the Griffith Observatory overlooking Los Angeles at sunrise!

From my perspective, it was really fun to plan how I would photograph this. There were many people at the Observatory exercising, taking photos and considering Suli had no idea who I was, I was not worried about “bing caught”. I had already seen photos of them and knew exactly who I was looking for.

As they walked up to the Observatory, I picked a spot to remain stationary and pretend I was taking photos of the city scape. David, being an avid photography enthusiast, convinced Suli to come with him to the Observatory early in the morning to take som photos of the sunrise. I remember at one point I had the camra pointed in their direction and Suli looked at me funny…but then looked behind her and noticed the Hollywood Sign, and that was enough to convince her that that was what I was taking a photo of.

David set his stuff down and walked up to the binoculars that are located at the Observatory and took a peek through. He then instructed Suli to have a look. When she did she immediately started laughing with joy. At the other end of those binoculars was two of her and Davids friends standing outside a car holding a giant sig asking her to marry him.

She was so struck by the surprise she hadn’t even realized it was her own friends holding the sign. David got down on one knee as I cam around the corner know she was fully in the moment and knew I would not even be close to being a distraction as he began to ask her for her hand in marriage.

Of course she said yes as she threw herself on to him hugging him in disbelief. He told her to look through the binoculars again and thats when she realized it was he friends. As she started to mutter the questions, “What are they doing here?” An entire group of her friends and close family members came around the corner to surprise her, if the proposal was not enough!

David was able to bring their entire group of friends and family to spend the week with them on their trip to California, a trip that will be forever a core memory.

This was such a fun experience, I am so excited for these two and just so grateful they found me and had me be a part of this chapter of their lives.

Joshua + Felicia - Engagement - Dancing Through Downtown Pasadena by Ulices Del Toro

Joshua + Felicia have to be one of the funnest couples we have met! We met them for the first time to photograph their engagement session, and right from the start they were so much fun. They had us meet at the Historic Rialto Theatre in South Pasadena. They really loved the look of the theatre and just liked the fact that it had been in a couple movies they liked, and we thought that was pretty cool.

They did not have anything specific in mind for their engagement photos, they just wanted to come out and have some fun. It’s always exciting when we have a couple who is up for adventuring around and exploring our surroundings to make some really awesome photos. We walked around Pasadena and found some pretty cool places to shoot.

We found a cool stairway behind the theatre to get creative. We caught the sunset in a little residential area. We visited the Colorado Street Bridge and found some beautiful areas to run around and get them dancing. It was really great just hanging out with them, and we know their wedding is going to be such a blast!

Kevin + Melissa - Engagement - Olvera Street and the Arts District in Los Angeles by Ulices Del Toro

What an incredible engagement session we had with these two! Kevin and Melissa took us to one of their favorite places in Los Angeles, we met them at the historic Olvera Street to wander around and enjoy this little hidden pueblo in the heart of LA.

Kevin and Melissa are so much fun to be around, we had an incredible time getting to know each other, laughing, and watching them dance all around the streets of Los Angeles. We also visited the Arts District, which is one of our favorite places to visit, grab some coffee and eat some good food.

This was the beginning of something special, and we cannot wait to be a part of another amazing wedding with this extraordinary couple.

Felipe + Iris - Engagement - Twin Peaks Ca. by Ulices Del Toro

When I first sat down to get to know Felipe and Iris, it was clear to me that these two are a perfect pair, and their enthusiasm for their big day got me just as excited even though they had just started planning everything out. We decided to head up to Twin Peaks for their engagement session, and things could not have gone any better!

Felipe is a huge Green Bay Packers fan, and we joked about having a Green Bay wedding! Rightfully so we had to do a few photos sporting some of his gear, and I am almost certain he will be sporting some green and yellow at his wedding. We strolled around the woods, found some epic spots for photos and had an amazing time watching these two fall in love all over again.

When we reached the peak of the mountain, the fog rolled in. It got a little windy, and a little cold, but it did not phase either Felipe or Iris and it made for some pretty magical photos.

Gus + Teresa - Engagement - Downtown Los Angeles, Ca by Ulices Del Toro

We had such an awesome time following Gus and Teresa around Downtown Los Angeles. They were very specific about the locations they had chosen, from the two buildings across each other they had worked at when they met, to the walks they would take together. The city looks good on them, and we cannot wait to photograph their wedding and spend some more time with these two amazing people!

Joseph + Gracie - Engagement - San Gabriel, Ca by Ulices Del Toro

The San Gabriel Mission is full of history and beauty. It was also the perfect setting for Joseph and Gracie's 'Day of the Dead' themed engagement session. It was so awesome to explore the Mission with these two, everywhere we turned the building was adorned with rusting door hinges and weathered beams of wood covered in vines and plants. This was also my first time meeting these two, and they were seriously so amazing. They were both a bit nervous about their photo session when we got started, but it didn't take long before these two forgot the camera was in front of them and fell in love all over again! Their love for each other came so naturally, it was so great to see these two just be in love and enjoy their time together. The anticipation for their wedding was so strong, and by the end of the shoot we could not wait for their upcoming Pasadena I Do's.

Jeremy + Jessica - Engagement - DTLA, Ca by Ulices Del Toro

We met up with Jeremy and Jessica at Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles. We knew there was a possibility of rain, but we decided to take our chances and risk the rain for some amazing photos. As soon as we arrived, it poured down rain with some crazy high winds, but neither of us were discouraged. Luckily for us, they too saw an opportunity for an awesome session. They had no problem going out in to the rain and enjoy themselves. It turned out to be such a great shoot. The rain let off, and the rest of the session was all sunshine and clouds as we strolled around the Arts District in Los Angeles capturing these two enjoy each other, laughing, hugging, kissing and of course looking forward to their big day!
